Two killed, four injured in Egypt stabbing

Two Ukrainian tourists have been killed by an attacker with a knife in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Hurghada.

The Egyptian interior ministry said four other tourists had been injured in the attack.

The assailant has been arrested and is being questioned to determine his motives.

No further details were available on the nationalities of the four surviving tourists.

The ministry said a preliminary investigation showed the man appeared to have swum from a nearby public beach to access the holiday resort.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office said around 231,000 British nationals visited Egypt in 2016.

The UK government body warned: “Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Egypt.

“You should be vigilant at all times, avoid crowded places and follow the advice of the Egyptian authorities and your travel company, if you have one.”
