Signature Life expands portfolio with new Durban hotel

South African hospitality brand, Signature Life Hotels, has added another property to its rapidly-growing portfolio. Hotel on the Park affords easy access to Durban’s facilities, and is opposite Essenwood Park on Berea, an elegantly-established and secure suburb on the high ridge of the city.

Surrounded by a mature leafy suburb, the location is a classic quiet haven with service that is attentive and unobtrusive. Yet it has easy access in and out of Durban, close to the ICC, CBD and all sporting and entertainment facilities.

Secluded and individual, there are 20 modern and tastefully decorated bedrooms. The interior design has been planned to reflect the beautiful trees and foliage of the area, and the colour palette a natural extension of the surroundings, with a contemporary touch, and elegant but practical design.

All 20 bedrooms are the same size and are economically designed to make the most of each space. All bedrooms have showers, twin beds and working desks for the business traveller in town.

There is a boardroom that accommodates 22 people for traditional meetings or small stylish functions. The bedrooms are set on two floors and lead into Plum restaurant and terrace.

Unique to this hotel is its interactive restaurant “Plum”, boasting a menu that offers fine cuisine, plus an open bar that compliments the restaurant and terrace.

An eclectic mix of restaurants and shops are scattered in the vicinity, in and around Musgrave Shopping Centre, which is only a two-minute drive. The adjacent Morningside suburb is full of boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops and galleries.

Visit the “Essenwood Craft Market” on Saturday mornings, when the park across the road from the Hotel comes alive. It’s a true Durban experience and is one of the largest and oldest established markets in South Africa. You could also venture to the north and take a leisurely stroll through one the largest shopping malls in the southern hemisphere “Gateway” or go kite surfing on the North Coast.

Take a drive to the Moses Mabhida Stadium, a brand new multipurpose stadium that is fast becoming the pride of Durban (it is less than 5 km away) or Suncoast beach which has become one of the favourite tourists’ beach in town. Travel a little further afield to uShaka Marine World, only 15 minutes away or to the beaches on the NorthCoast at Umhlanga and Ballito.
