Seychelles discusses involvement of Nigeria in islands’ calendar of events

Mr. Solomon Oyatero, the new High Commissioner of Nigeria accredited to Seychelles, paid a call on Minister Alain St.Ange, the island’s Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, at his Bel Ombre Offices. The Nigerian High Commissioner used the meeting to re-emphasize his desire to see more areas of cooperation between Nigeria and Seychelles. High Commissioner Oyatero, who was on his first visit to Seychelles to firstly present his official credentials to Seychelles President James Michel, had already expressed to the Head of State, areas in which he felt more could be done between the countries.

Seychelles Minister St.Ange and High Commissioner Solomon Oyatero of Nigeria discussed fact-finding missions from Nigeria to discuss tourism and conservation approaches being implemented by Seychelles, and proposals tabled by the Seychelles Minister for Nigeria’s participation in the annual FetAfrik, the celebration of Africa Day in Seychelles, in the Kreol Festival to showcase their “Pigeon English” lauguage and at the Carnaval International de Victoria.

An official communication as an invitation is now being communicated to Nigeria as a followup on Nigeria’s participation in these Seychelles events.

Minister St.Ange, who was accompanied at the meeting by Mrs. Raymonde Onezime, his Special Advisor, said that he really appreciated the time taken by the High Commissioner Oyatero and his delegation to visit the Tourism Bel Ombre Offices. “We have very cordial and interesting discussions. We also believe that a lot can be achieved during the mandate of High Commissioner Oyatero, and we need to work on dossiers now tabled to bring them to fruition,” Minister St.Ange said.
