Rugby fans boost Eurostar passenger numbers

Eurostar has reported a 6% surge in bookings over the February half term week, compared with the same UK half term holiday last year.

Thousands of Brits are taking the opportunity to enjoy a Winter break, while the French national rugby team and its fans have been flocking to London for today’s England versus France Six Nations clash.

Friday 22 February was set to be one of Eurostar’s busiest days so far this year, with over 25,000 passengers expected to travel on that day alone.

Nick Mercer, Commercial Director for Eurostar, says; “With Valentine’s Day last Thursday, London Fashion Week this week and the Six Nations clash between England and France this Saturday, we’ve seen a big surge in bookings. To meet this heightened demand and ensure everyone can make the most of the half term break, we’ve even added eight extra services, between London and Paris this month.

“Many of our rugby loving travellers tell us their Eurostar journey is a great opportunity to soak up the carnival mood before the match and to celebrate old friendships and sporting rivalries. We’re sure this weekend will be no exception.”
