Routes 2012: Domestic flights take off from Abu Dhabi for first time

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) has witnessed the launch of the first domestic scheduled flights from Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Local carrier Rotana Jet inaugurated services to Fujairah International Airport.

The service is being operated on a twice daily basis using an Embraer ERJ-145.

In the last couple of days twice daily flights from Abu Dhabi to Al Ain have been added and Sharjah will join the network soon.

The new flights are part of an initiative from Rotana Jet to extend its domestic route network.

This comes just three months after it launched the first domestic scheduled flights in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with links from Abu Dhabi’s Al Bateen Executive Airport to Sir Bani Yas and Delma Island.

Commenting on this new service, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saif Al’Nahyan, chairman of Rotana Jet, said: “Air connectivity is a key component of any country’s development.  At Rotana Jet, we are committed in developing a safe, reliable, and efficient air transport connecting the various emirates of UAE with the capital to improve easy accessibility both domestically and internationally.

“This will facilitate greater and more equitable benefits for tourism growth as well.”
