Rio 2016: iPass to offer Uber passengers free Wi-Fi during Olympics

iPass and Uber have announced a partnership to provide international Uber riders with free Wi-Fi in Rio de Janeiro.

As part of the partnership, iPass will provide riders with access to more than 1,160 iPass commercial hotspots in Rio de Janeiro.

Starting immediately, the promotion will run until the end of the Rio Olympic Games.

Within the Brazilian city, iPass boasts a notable footprint, with Wi-Fi coverage in elite hotels, in tourist-friendly neighbourhoods, Copacabana and Ipanema, and near popular sporting venues.

“Mobility is a major challenge during an event of this magnitude,” said Gui Telles, general manager of Uber in Brazil.

“To help Uber riders have a seamless experience, we are partnering with iPass to provide access to Wi-Fi all around Rio.”

“We are extremely excited to be working with Uber to provide Wi-Fi access to its international rider base in Rio,” said Gary Griffiths, president, iPass.
