Richard Carrick is to be the next President of The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Travel Industry Group (CIMTIG). He takes over from current CIMTIG President, TUI’s Dermot Blastland, at The Travel Marketing Awards in March.
Formerly CEO of Hoeseasons and a board director of MyTravel Plc, Richard Carrick has, over the past 30 years, held senior marketing posts in a range of leading travel and hospitality companies including International Leisure Group (ILG), Saga Holidays, Airtours and Forte Hotels & Restaurants. Most recently he led a successful buy & sell of Hoseasons Holidays with private equity backing.
He is currently a board trustee of People First, the government Sector Skills Council for the hospitality & travel industries & has been a member of City & Guilds Travel Advisory Board. He was formally a senior lecturer and consultant at Huddersfield Polytechnic and has acted as a Governor for Hatfield College, Durham University.
He will assume the title of President-elect until his official appointment in March.
Commenting on the appointment, Richard Carrick said: “The role of CIMTIG President has traditionally been largely ceremonial but I want to be very involved with CIMTIG’s activities at every level of the travel industry. Although the discipline of marketing resides at the heart of the travel industry it still doesn’t get the investment, attention or credit that it should. I firmly believe that as the UK comes out of recession, travel companies will rely heavily on the expertise of their marketing teams to give them a competitive edge & that CIMTIG can assist greatly in that process.
“Through its awards, seminars and networking events CIMTIG does much to promote the discipline of marketing in the industry, over the next two years I intend to help develop CIMTIG’s offering to the industry so as to promote the discipline and attract more people into the marketing profession within the industry”.
Commenting on the appointment, CIMTIG Chairman, Gary Grieve said: “We are delighted that Richard accepted our invitation to become CIMTIG President. As a marketing professional with a considerable record in the travel industry and education fields Richard will help CIMTIG promote the discipline of marketing excellence throughout the travel industry – the CIMTIG council very much look forward to working with him over the coming years”.
He continued: “We would also like to extend our thanks and appreciation to out going President Dermot Blastland whose support and encouragement over the past three years has been a cornerstone of the CIMTIG success story”.
