Low-cost carrier Norwegian has carried more than 2.2 million passengers in September 2014, an increase of 16 per cent compared to the same month previous year.

The load factor was 81.4 per cent, up 3.1 percentage points.

The total passenger traffic increased by 43 per cent, while the capacity increased by 37 per cent this month.

“We’re very pleased that an increasing number of customers choose to fly Norwegian and that our passenger figures continue to rise - even with considerable capacity growth in new markets.

“The fact that more customers outside of Scandinavia choose to fly with Norwegian, proves that we’re gaining a stronger international foothold and that quality flights and low fares are well received,” said chief executive Bjørn Kjos.

Norwegian has during the past year established two new bases in Spain and launched several new routes between Spain and Germany, Spain and Poland and Spain and the UK.

In addition, the company has established to new bases in the US and launched several new long-haul flights.

When entering new markets where the brand is relatively unknown, launch fares are important in order to boost company awareness.

Norwegian operated 99.7 per cent of its scheduled flights in September, whereof 86.8 per cent departed on time.

Norwegian took delivery of two brand new Boeing 737-800 aircraft in September.

The company will introduce a total of 14 Boeing 737-800s and four Boeing 787 Dreamliners to its fleet in 2014.

Norwegian’s fleet is among the most modern and environmentally friendly in Europe.
