Quito takes South America’s Leading Destination title at World Travel Awards

Quito has been named South America´s Leading Destination by the World Travel Awards.

This is the second consecutive year the city has won this prestigious award.

The Ecuadorian capital was also the host of the Gala Ceremony of this renowned competition, which gathered a full and international audience of leading tourism industry and media representatives.

This prestigious ceremony is considered the Oscars of the tourism industry in Central and South America.

The Gala, moderated by Renato Ortega, the famous writer, photographer and TV presenter, was held at Itchimbía Cultural Centre and showed to all present the great variety on offer from Ecuador.

At the same time, Ecuador won the South America´s Green Destination award and the Ecuadorian Tourist Board was named as South America’s Leading
Tourist Organisation.

Meanwhile, the Cruise Train, one of the most recent attractions in the country, won the title of South America´s Leading Luxury Train.

Luz Elena Coloma, Quito Turismo manager director, stated: “We´re really proud to host tourist experts from all over the world, who work hard to promote their destinations, and it has been a pleasure for our team to make this Gala Ceremony possible together with the World Travel Awards team.

“From Quito Turismo we´ve done our best to make an unforgettable moment out of this Ceremony and to highlight all the attractions our city has to offer. This event has been an excellent platform to promote Quito as well as Ecuador around the world.”
