World Travel Awards has welcomed some of the leading lights of the regional travel industry to the championship South Course in Quinta do Lago for the WTA Golf Classic.

In association with Centro Porsche Faro and Quinta do Lago, the event acted as a curtain raiser to the World Travel Awards Europe Gala Ceremony at the Conrad Algarve.

The new Hilton Worldwide-operated property, which opened last month, is already recognised as the foremost hotel in the region.

More than 40 golfers teed off at the nearby South Course at 8:00am.

World Travel Awards senior vice president Sion Rapson told Breaking Travel News on the first tee: “This is an excellent opportunity for us to welcome our guests to the Algarve ahead of out Europe Gala Ceremony 2012 this evening.

“Outside of the networking opportunities for the top executives here, it is a chance for participants to relax on what is considered one of the finest golf courses in the region.”

The event included complimentary green fees, electric car hire, club hire, on course drinks, tournament prizes, buffet lunch and after-play drinks.
