Putin lifts Russian tour operator ban on Turkish travel

Vladimir Putin has lifted sanctions on Russian travellers visiting Turkey.

The Russian president effectively barred holidaymakers visiting the tourism hotspot last year after Turkey shot down a Russian military jet.

Turkey had claimed the jet had violated its airspace.

Putin had barred charter flights from visiting Turkey and suspended tour operators from selling holidays to the country.

Earlier this week the Kremlin accepted a letter from Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan as an apology.

In the letter Erdogan had expressed “regret” over the incident.

The fighter jet was shot down near the Syria-Turkey border in November last year.
