Seems that Puerto Rico is attracting new tourists, putting the Island back on the map.
When it comes to high-end hospitality, four new top notch hotels have opened in the 35 x 100 miles island. Starting with the Ritz Carlton Reserve located in Dorado, follow by the Bahia St Regis at Rio Grande, The W at Vieques and finishing with Royal Isabela located in the town of Isabela.
Another big attraction is the national rum fest of Puerto Rico. A culinary, cultural and historical experience will serve as the backdrop for the “Taste of Rum,” an event that will come back to Old San Juan and La Princesa historic building to celebrate its fifth anniversary on Saturday, March 1 starting at 2 p.m.
This activity, which established Puerto Rico as a tourism destination and secured its worldwide recognition as the Rum Capital, will bring together in one place more than 15 brands produced in Puerto Rico for tasting. The public will enjoy an elaborate and comprehensive sampling of rums known worldwide, such as Bacardi and Don Q, as well as crafted spirits that are prepared in the island, such as Ron Barrilito, Ron Caray and Ron Trigo, among many others.
According to the organizer of “Taste of Rum,” Federico Hernández: “This event aims for Puerto Rico to be seen as a favorite worldwide place for tasting, presentation, quality and development of the widest variety of local rums. The last four editions have established the island as an obligatory stop for tourists on this date.”
More than 2,000 people have gathered for each edition and more than 800 people, mostly from the United States, have participated in the event during their trip to Puerto Rico.
This time, the public will enjoy seminars offered by representatives of the participating brands, as well as by the staff of Rums of Puerto Rico, the official host of the event. Musical offerings will include a tribute to Marc Anthony and the band The Police respectively.
Meanwhile, Barbara Vélez, Director of Rums of Puerto Rico, said “for four years, ‘Taste of Rum’ has been the setting to showcase the quality and versatility of Puerto Rican rum, as it is not only an opportunity to taste it, but also to learn.”
