Pence plane slides off runway in New York

Mike Pence, the Republican Party vice-presidential candidate, has escaped unhurt after his plane slid off the runway while landing in New York.

The Indiana governor’s plane left the runway at LaGuardia Airport earlier.

No one was injured during the incident, with Pence and 30 passengers evacuated through the back of the plane.

Pence was returning from a campaign event in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

LaGuardia Airport was briefly closed following the incident.

It has now reopened.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump called Pence to check on him after the incident, the campaign said.
