Octoberfest and Loy Krathong festival at Millennium Hilton Bangkok

November is a popular month to be in Bangkok for business or pleasure.  The rainy season is drawing to a close and the drier weather makes it a great time to get out and about in one ofAsia’s most exciting cities.  With this in mind, Millennium Hilton Bangkok is hosting some unmissable indoor and alfresco entertainment at its restaurants in the eleventh month, for both hotel and dining guests who enjoy a life less ordinary!

Oktoberfest - Few cultural festivals have made a global impact like Oktoberfest, the Bavarian festival dating from 1810, renowned throughout the world as a celebration of the finest beers, ales and friends.

Thanks to the Millennium Hilton Bangkok, Oktoberfest will come to life in Thailand, mixing Bavarian authenticity with classic Thai hospitality at the hotel’s riverside dining venue, Flow, from November 4 -5.  Guest Chef and German National Jens Junghans will create a menu of German delicacies, including baked Bavarian meatloaf, whole roasted pork with caraway gravy, and boiled weisswurst sausage. Traditional Bavarian cold cuts and breads, such as caraway bread rolls and pretzel with cheese, can be enjoyed with Paulaner beers – the main event, of course! Stay late into the evening with the sounds of Anton and Band – the German band who have played at the Oktoberfest many times.

Loy Krathong is probably the most picturesque and beautiful of all Thai celebrations. Celebrated this year on November 10, ‘Loy’ literally means ‘to float,’ while ‘krathong’ refers to the lotus-shaped receptacle which can float on the water. Originally, the krathong was made of banana leaves or the layers of the trunk of a banana tree or a spider lily plant. A krathong usually contains food, betel nuts, flowers, joss sticks, candle and coins.

On November 10, thousands of people will gather beside the canals and rivers. With krathong in hand, light the candle, put some coins in the krathong and silently make a wish, while carefully placing their krathongs in the water before releasing them to the current.
