North West Rail link part of Sydney’s rail future

As part of Sydney’s Rail Future, at least 12 trains an hour will run on the North West Rail Link during peak periods – or one every five minutes. There will be no need for a timetable - just turn up to one of the eight new stations planned for the north west and catch the next train.

New generation, single deck heavy rail trains will deliver a fast, safe and reliable journey for commuters. As part of Sydney’s Rail Future, the NSW Government has announced that planning will start on a second heavy rail crossing of Sydney Harbour.

Once finished, trains from the North West will use this second harbour crossing to take customers direct to the Sydney CBD.

While this crossing is being delivered, customers on the North West Rail Link will simply cross the platform at Chatswood to change to the existing network.

Train timetables will be organised to ensure you only need to wait a few moments to switch from one train to another. There will be no need to take stairs or escalators to change trains. There will be a train every three minutes to the city during the peak.
