New chief executive takes over at Banyan Tree Abid Butt will take over as chief executive of Banyan Tree Hotels

Banyan Tree Holdings has announced the appointment of Abid Butt as chief executive of Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts (BTHR).

BTHR is the wholly-owned hotel management and development subsidiary of Singapore-listed Banyan Tree Holdings.

“As BTHR’s aggressive growth strategy propels the company’s portfolio forward, with a significant pipeline of projects in China, the Americas, Europe and Southeast Asia, Butt’s knowledge and expertise in hotel operations and infrastructure will be invaluable,” said executive chairman Ho KwonPing.

Butt has a legacy of experience with Banyan Tree, having served as the area general manager for the group’s flagship resort, Banyan Tree Phuket, over ten years ago, followed by his appointment as the first vice president of operations from 2000-2002.

In this capacity, Butt oversaw operations and branding for existing hotels and resorts and the launch of new properties.

In his most recent position, Butt was the vice president for asset management of Host Hotels & Resorts in the United States, responsible for preserving and enhancing the value of a collection of 15 luxury hotels.

“I am delighted to return to the Banyan Tree family and participate in the company’s dynamic growth and development,” stated Butt.

“I will be focused on strategic initiatives for the 30 hotels in our current portfolio, along with the successful launch of future projects around the world.

“I look forward to working with our dedicated associates and valuable partners in continuing to chart the path of BTHR’s pre-eminence in the luxury hospitality space.”

Banyan Tree is considered Asia’s Leading Resort Brand by the World Travel Awards.
