New body brings Costa Concordia toll to 13

Divers searching the stricken Costa Concordia off the coast of Italy have recovered the body of a female passenger, bringing the confirmed death toll to 13.

The vessel capsized on Friday 13th January with more than 4,200 people on board after smashing into rocks off the coast of Isola del Giglio.

Italy’s Civil Protection Authority confirmed 20 people were still missing following the incident, with divers continuing to scour the partially submerged vessel.

A total of eight of the 13 bodies discovered have so far been identified.

Investigators are still examining the causes of the sinking.

Francesco Schettino, captain of the vessel, is being detained under house arrest while his actions are investigated.

He is accused of multiple manslaughter.
