MTR: Sheung Wan station modifications complete

New public toilet facilities and two new lifts will be opened for public use at MTR Sheung Wan Station on 26 August 2012, marking the completion of two years of major renovation works under the West Island Line project.  The newly installed toilets are located at Sheung Wan Station’s East Concourse. A new lift at Entrance/Exit E3 on Des Voeux Road Central provides passengers with easy connection between street level and the station concourse while a new internal lift in the East Concourse will take passengers between the concourse and platform level.

“Passengers will enjoy further convenience after the opening of new toilets and lifts,” said Mr Jay Walder, Chief Executive Officer of MTR Corporation. “Since the launching of the Listening.Responding programme, we have seen the opening of four external lifts, making MTR journeys easier and more enjoyable, especially for the elderly and passengers with special needs.”

The renovation works at Sheung Wan Station provide more space for smooth passenger flow and enhanced facilities to prepare its transformation into an intermediate station when the Island Line is extended to Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong University and Kennedy Town under the West Island Line project. The project is progressing well and is set to open in 2014 as scheduled, to rejuvenate the neighbourhood, bringing significant economic, social and environmental benefits to the community.
