Montcalm opens hotel in old brewery
A former London brewery will be the home to a new luxury five-star hotel, which is due to open its doors to the public.
The Montcalm London City at The Brewery will free up 100 of its 235 rooms and suites for use up to September, when the hotel will open all rooms following an official launch.
A contemporary British restaurant and cocktail bar is housed within the Chiswell Street elite hotel, with an annexe opposite the building home to 25 of its rooms.
The Grade II listed building dates back to 1750 when Samuel Whitbread started operating his brewery, and is believed to be the UK’s first purpose-built mass production brewery.
Beers continued to be brewed until 1976, when the site was converted into Whitbread’s head office and a conference and banqueting centre.
