Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 downed by Russia-back rebels

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was downed by a Russian-made Buk missile investigators examining the crash said in Amsterdam earlier.

The missile was fired from territory controlled by Russian-backed rebels inside Ukraine, with the launcher later taken back to Russia, Dutch investigators confirmed.

All 298 people on board the Boeing 777 died when it broke apart in mid-air flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur in July 2014.

However Russia said the conclusions are “political” and denied a Buk missile was to blame.

The Joint Investigation Team investigating the incident includes prosecutors from the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, Malaysia and Ukraine.

Earlier this week, Russia argued it had radar data showing that the missile was not fired from rebel-held territory.

However, The JIT does not yet have access to that data, prosecutors said.
