LATAM carries Olympic flame to Brazil ahead of Rio 2016


The Olympic flame touches down in Brazil

LATAM Airlines has successfully carried the Olympic flame from Switzerland to Brazil and will now aid the transport of the torch on a relay across the country.

The aircraft used for the delivery was the first to feature LATAM Airlines’ new logo and the aircraft also featured a special trademark identifying it as the carrier for the Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Relay.

The flame was transported on a Boeing 767-300ER non-stop flight from Geneva to the host nation, Brazil.

To mark the arrival of the flame in Brazil, the flight was escorted by two impressive fighter jets from the Brazilian Air Force.

After reaching Brasília, the country’s capital, the Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Relay will travel through 300 cities across Brazil.

During this tour, LATAM will carry the torch to 13 cities on an Airbus A319 aircraft, which will feature the Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Relay logo.
LATAM Airlines will deliver the Olympic Flame to; Teresina, Palmas, São Luís, Imperatriz, Belém, Macapá, Santarém, Boa Vista, Manaus, Rio Branco, Porto
Velho, Cuiabá and Campo Grande.

The Olympic Torch Relay will last 95 days and will culminate in the opening ceremony at the Maracanã stadium on August 5th, where the Olympic Cauldron will be lit.

LATAM is the official airline of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the official sponsor of the Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Relay.
