Jet2.com launches 5 new routes to Spanish hotspots from Glasgow

Jet2.com, is giving Scottish sun worshippers something to shout ‘Olé’ about by launching five brand new routes from Glasgow Airport to Spanish holiday hotspots Barcelona, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Malaga and Murcia – 2012 flights to these new destinations are on sale now.

Ian Doubtfire, managing director of Jet2.com, commented: “What better way to celebrate the launch of five new Spanish sunshine routes than creating our own unique version of the famous paella – fusing two iconic national dishes to give people a flavour of the great destinations now available from their local airport.”

Jet2.com’s new flights to Spain’s second largest city, Barcelona, the sunshine island of Lanzarote, Malaga – the ‘Gateway to the Costa del Sol’ – and the beautiful coastal resort of Murcia will depart from March 2012. Flights will depart as follows:

Families and couples looking for great value package holidays to these popular destinations can take advantage of the offers from sister company Jet2holidays – which combine Jet2.com flights, resort transfers, 22kg baggage allowance, handpicked two to five star hotels and ATOL protection, from just £310 per person for seven nights.  And those booking before 4th July can save up to £100 off the prices of any Summer 2011, Winter 2011/12 and Summer 2012 break.
The airline has also put on sale 2012 flights to four of the destinations that are proving popular for this summer – Alicante, Faro, Majorca and Tenerife – and is making 20 per cent more seats available to Alicante, Faro and Malaga as well as providing an additional service to Tenerife.

Ian Doubtfire continued: “There’s no doubt this is an exciting time for us at Glasgow Airport.  In just two months since we started flying from our newest base we have launched five new routes and also increased capacity to some of our most popular destinations – this demonstrates how committed we are to growing the range of great value destinations we offer to customers across Glasgow and the west of Scotland.
“We are really pleased with bookings so far with 150,000 seats already sold, covering both Jet2.com and Jet2holidays passengers.  The feedback from passengers on our generous 22kg baggage allowance, allocated seating and friendly flight times is very positive, so we are now enabling people to plan ahead and book their summer breaks for 2012.”

Customers keen to book their 2012 break will also be able to use Jet2.com’s new booking process.  In an overhaul of its popular website it has launched inclusive pricing – with all taxes and charges now included from the outset so that customers can easily get a sense of their total costs up front.

Francois Bourienne, Commercial Director at Glasgow Airport, said: “As expected, there has been huge demand for Jet2.com’s flights since its arrival at Glasgow Airport earlier this year and we’re delighted it has responded by launching five new routes. The airline is clearly committed to continually improving its service for customers and should be congratulated for doing so.”

Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, added:  “Jet2.com’s plans to launch five new in-bound services from Spain at very competitive prices next year is yet more great news for tourism in Glasgow and serves as a clear vote of confidence in Glasgow Airport and in the attractiveness of the city’s fantastic cultural credentials.

“We have been working closely with both Jet2.com and the airport over the last few months on a joint communications strategy to support the airline’s other new and existing in-bound services to Glasgow, thus maximising local economic benefit opportunities. We very much look forward to continuing that relationship into the future.”

Jet2.com offers flights from Glasgow Airport to 13 city, sun and ski destinations: Alicante, Barcelona, Faro, Geneva, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Majorca, Malaga, Murcia, Nice, Paphos, Tenerife and Turkey.
