Interactive workshop reveals UK travel sector’s Germany experts

Competition was keen at an interactive workshop, hosted by the German National Tourist Office (GNTO) and tourism for North Rhine-Westphalia. Twelve teams of five contestants, gathered from the UK tourism industry included tour operators, travel journalists and front line agents who all vied to demonstrate their extensive knowledge of North Rhine-Westphalia and its varied attractions.

The winning team, including Pia Brodersen, Andres Moreno Lopez, Anthony Lambert, Bryn Frank and Petra Shepherd won fabulous prizes, but crowned with the coveted title of overall quiz King of the night was Anthony Lambert, Member of the British Guild of Travel Writers and Freelance Travel Journalist who impressed North Rhine Westphalia’s visiting specialists with an impressive grasp of German composers, chocolate and the “Halve Hahn”, among other things. He won a fantastic Düsseldorf package including two nights in the DJH City Hostel Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf Welcome Cards, HopOn HopOff Tickets, vouchers for an „Altbier-Safari“ and a Panorama Cruise with KD in Düsseldorf.

Joint hosts Klaus Lohmann, director, UK and Ireland, GNTO, with Katja Heuer and Vanessa Dietrich from tourism North Rhine-Westphalia ensured lively discussions all round.  Klaus Lohmann said: ‘I never doubted that the UK travel industry knew there was more to Germany than sausages, but I didn’t realise their expertise would be so comprehensive. Clearly, for the good of UK-German tourism our guests here this evening have enthusiastically researched these topics well. We have all been really impressed”.
