Icelandair reveals three new US gateways

Icelandair had added three new North American gateways, introducing a new service to Kansas City and putting San Francisco and Baltimore back on the map.

Inaugural flights to the new destinations will begin in late May and early June 2018, offering easy connections between the UK and North America.

These three new routes will provide a greater choice of travel destinations for UK passengers with connections from the existing six UK gateways that Icelandair serve via their hub in Reykjavik.

The airline now offers 23 North American destinations, making them the second highest airline for the number of North American airways serviced.

“The time is right for Icelandair to return to Baltimore and San Francisco.

“Icelandair has been in operation for over 80 years, and these cities have played an important role in that history.

“The third addition to our network marks the first time in its history that Icelandair will offer non-stop flights to and from the heart of America.

“Today our network is bigger and stronger than ever, and we offer our passengers more flights, more connections, and a refreshing alternative to Iceland and beyond.

“We look forward to once again welcoming San Francisco and Baltimore on board, and we warmly welcome Kansas City,” says Icelandair chief executive Björgólfur Jóhannsson.

Icelandair service to the heartland of America sees flights operating three times a week to Kansas City International Airport in Missouri, commencing May 25th, operated via a Boeing 757 with a three-class configuration.

Flights depart Keflavik at 18:00 and arrive at Kansas City International at 20:45 on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

In return, flights depart Kansas City International at 17:15 arriving at Keflavik at 05:10 the following day.

Icelandair returns to San Francisco, California and Baltimore, Maryland, with services commencing June 1st and May 28th, respectively, and flying four times weekly.

It has been over a decade since Icelandair ceased operations to both destinations, but there has always been strong demand and support for the airline to return.

Both San Francisco and Baltimore will be operated by a three-class configuration including Economy, Economy Comfort and Business Class with the former with a Boeing 767 and the latter with a Boeing 757.

Flights to San Francisco will depart Keflavik on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and on return will depart San Francisco to Keflavik on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Mondays providing UK passengers with a range of options to choose from.
