ATM 2011: Hollywood’s legendary Biltmore to open Abu Dhabi hotel

Legendary Hollywood hotel brand Biltmore - favourite of Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty - is to open an outpost in Abu Dhabi.

Millennium & Copthorne, which owns the Biltmore brand, announced at Arabian Travel Market that it would open a spinoff of the Los Angeles hotel in the Al Bateen district of fast-growing emirate by 2013.

Al Bateen is one of the most exclusive quarters of Abu Dhabi, and its oldest occupied area. Nearby hotels include a Sheraton, a Hilton, an InterContinental plus the famous Emirates Palace hotel by Kempinski (voted “Middle East’s Leading Meetings & Conference Hotel”, “Middle East’s Leading Suite”, “UAE’s Leading Resort”, “Abu Dhabi’s Leading Beach Resort”, “Abu Dhabi’s Leading Hotel”, “Abu Dhabi’s Leading Meetings & Conference Hotel” and “Abu Dhabi’s Leading Resort at last night’s World Travel Awards).

The Biltmore Hotel in Hollywood is one of America’s most iconic hotels - it has a favourite haunt of movie stars and has also featured in films such as Ghostbusters, Independence Day and The Italian Job.

The company promised that “the timeless elegance and glamour of the Biltmore is certain to resonate with this market.”

Meanwhile Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) picked up four major awards in the Middle East round of the World Travel Awards 2011.

Presented at a gala dinner in Dubai, the awards saw ADTA receive honours for: “The Middle East’s Leading Destination Marketing Campaign”; “The Middle East’s Leading International Marketing Campaign”; “The Middle East’s Leading Tourist Board” and “The Middle East’s Responsible Tourism Award”.

Arabian Travel Market is being held at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre through to May 5.
