Hilton Worldwide announces Waldorf Astoria Luxury is coming to The Netherlands

Hilton Worldwide today announced an agreement with Dijkhuis Vastgoed Management B.V, the owner of Hilton Amsterdam, for a new luxury Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts property.  Located in the heart of central Amsterdam, within the recently declared UNESCO World Heritage site, the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will be created by combining six historic canal-side buildings.

Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will be nestled amongst 17th and 18th century row houses, alongside one of Amsterdam’s most well-know canals, Herengracht.  Its premiere central location is ideal for leisure guests visiting the capital city’s historic sights, museums, shops, and cafes. Its proximity to Amsterdam’s business district will make it ideal for corporate travelers seeking a premium luxury experience.

John Vanderslice, global head of luxury and lifestyle brands at Hilton Worldwide, said, “The Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts brand has become a touchstone for defining luxury experiences and its growth is one of the strongest in its hospitality segment with more than 20 hotels in operation and 11 hotels currently in our global pipeline.  Our hotels are destinations of elegant style and comfort, reflecting great design and architecture in thoughtful details and Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will be an exquisite asset to our brand when it opens in 2013.”

The 94-guestroom hotel will feature a range of elegant food and beverage experiences including a destination restaurant and bar.  A stunning 500 square metre health club and spa will see guests of Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam enjoy a luxurious experience offering true Waldorf service in one of the world’s most magical locations.

Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will also offer 400 square metres of state-of-the-art meeting and conference space including a courtyard garden.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president development, Europe & Africa, Hilton Worldwide, said, “Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts is experiencing great growth momentum in Europe and Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will be an exceptional addition to our luxury portfolio.  We are particularly pleased to see growth in Amsterdam, which is one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations.”

Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts includes more than 20 landmark destinations around the globe, each with its own story and identity and each inspired by the level of service that defined the legendary Waldorf-Astoria New York.

Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will be the luxury brand’s seventh hotel to open in Europe, reflecting its continued international expansion, joining Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts; Trianon Palace Versailles, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel and London Syon Park, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel. New properties are due to open next year in Berlin, Edinburgh and Jerusalem.

Harro Dijkhuis at Dijkhuis Vastgoed Management B.V, said, “We are delighted to be continuing our relationship with Hilton Worldwide to open Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam in this stunning canal-side location.  Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will deliver authentic moments uniquely reflective of the history and heritage of the city and we look forward to opening this grand hotel in 2013.  We would like to express our gratitude to the local authorities for their ongoing support of this project.”
