Members of the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards scheme can now upgrade their rental vehicles via a smartphone.

Prior to customers’ arrival at the airport, Hertz will send a text notifying them about a reservation.

Clicking a link in the message produces three options: switching to a different car at no additional cost, the deal of the day or a selection of upgrades.

Car rental giant Hertz, which last week said it would acquire the Zipcar network, said it piloted the service in Los Angeles and Washington throughout December.
