Gumtree to offer holidays following launch of daily deals service

Classified website Gumtree is seeking to boost its popularity further with the introduction of a Daily Deals service.

As part of the new service, e-Bay-owned Gumtree will offer consumers the chance to use social media to suggest offers they would like to see on the new service – including last minute holidays.

Daily deals sites have enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent years, with services such as Groupon and LivingSocial dominating the market.

Gumtree will seek to differentiate itself with offers focusing on fun and unusual experiences.

“Consumers are becoming increasingly savvy to the offers that are available, both on the high street and online, so it is vital to offer a unique and different platform in this competitive space,” explained Hamish Stone from Gumtree.com.

“Asking our community to post their ideas and vote on their favourite deals via the Facebook page will ensure that users receive offers that are truly tailored to the Gumtree community, where everyone can take part and have their opinions heard.”

Using its Facebook page, Gumtree’s Daily Deals will ask customers to suggest deals they would like to see offered on the site, and then try to tailor the service to meet these demands.

These deals will then be evaluated by volunteer bloggers – known by Gumtree is Crash Test Dummies – who will review the experience for the site.
