Green Globe recertifies Best Western Premier Le Morgane

Green Globe announced recertification of the Best Western Premier Le Morgane in Chamonix in the heart of the French Alps. The hotel operates with a firm commitment to protect the environment, while delivering high-quality services and a luxury experience for guests.

The Best Western Premier Le Morgane features a solar-powered water heating system: 55 square meters of solar panels installed on the roof generate enough energy to cover 25 percent of the hotel´s hot water needs per year. In addition, a contract with the national electricity company ensures that large quantities of supplied electricity come from renewable sources.

To reduce energy consumption, the 100 percent smoke-free Le Morgane has systems in place that automatically turn off lights when nobody is in the room and turn off the heating when windows are open. The property installed fluo-compact light bulbs that reduce energy consumption by 80 percent, as well as a new pump for heating water in the swimming pool and new windowpanes with better insulation. The hotel also features a heat-retrieval unit connected to the central ventilation system. Instead of being pumped outside, extracted heat can thus be used to pre-heat water. A computerized system collects and processes all energy data and proves that Le Morgane saves around 25 percent energy per year.

We have proven that sustainability and high-quality service can perfectly work together. Receiving the Green Globe Certificate for the second time is a great encouragement for us to continue on this path of considering our environment in all our actions.”

In line with its Sustainable Building Program, the hotel was recently renovated and refurbished to minimize its environmental impact and better blend in with the style and colors of the buildings in the neighborhood. Landscapers chose local plants for green areas that can be maintained without using fertilizers or pesticides. To preserve resources and avoid long transportation, the Le Morgane hotel worked with local companies, brought in stones from the Italian valleys in the neighborhood, and used wood from pines and oaks in France.

They are also very committed to pass their goals on to guests to encourage responsible behavior and back up their own efforts: a sustainability charter instructs guests how to sort waste – different bins are provided in each room – to use water and energy in a responsible way, to adopt green purchasing practices, and to use public transportation.”

Besides an efficient waste management, Hotel Le Morgane has purchasing policies that - among others - consider origin, packaging, and quality, and chooses suppliers equally committed to sustainable procedures. The swimming pool is equipped with an automatic dosage system for disinfectants, which minimizes the use of the chemicals while ensuring the required level of hygiene. Water-saving aerators in guest rooms reduce water consumption, and water meters installed on pipes not only help control the consumption but also detect leaks which are fixed immediately.
