flythomascook.com, part of the Thomas Cook Group PLC, are predicting that their newly announced flights to Tunisia from Leeds Bradford Airport are going to generate a great deal of interest from cash-strapped sun seekers this year.

Flights to the North African country will operate on Sundays between May and October and will open up this increasingly popular destination to visitors from the north of England.

Thomas Cook already operates a wide range of holiday packages in the region, including tours and desert safaris to relaxing beach resort holidays. “With the weak pound currently making European destinations more expensive, we predict that non-Eurozone countries like Tunisia are going to see a big growth in UK tourists,” says head of flythomascook Henry Sunley. “Tunisia is a really exciting country and something very different from the usual summer holiday destination,” he adds.

Flights will land at Monastir, Tunisia, situated in the north of the country. From this ancient port the whole of the country is easily accessible with excellent transportation systems and cheap car hire available. Tunisia itself is a heady mixture of the sweeping dunes of the Sahara desert in the south to the green mountains and lakes that dominate the north. Concealed in its interior are hidden gems, such as gorges, caves and waterfalls, all waiting to be explored. The coast is lined with sandy beaches, perfect for family holidays, and visitors can choose to stay at luxury, low-rise hotels or family-run B&B’s.
