FIM Superbike World Championship headed for Algarve

FIM Superbike World Championship headed for Algarve

For the fifth consecutive year the FIM Superbike World Championship will be hosted in the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve from September 21st-23rd.

It will be the penultimate round of the season attracting motorcycle fans from across the globe.

Tickets are on sale on the website with 15 per cent discount available until August 31st 2012.

Before the Portuguese round follows the Moscow and Nürburgring events.

With still four races to go to the end of the Championship, the favourites for the title are already beginning to stand out.

In 2011 Carlos Checa (Ducati) was a clear favourite while this year Max Biaggi (Aprilia) is tipped as the one to win.

Hot on Max’s heels are Marco Melandri (BMW) and Tom Sykes (Kawasaki).

In Supersport the twice-world champion Kenan Sofuoglu is once more leading the charts, closely followed by Sam Lowes, one of the pilots of Parkalgar Honda team in 2011.

But the Turk who has won before in the Algarve is keen once again to reach the podium but Lowes will certainly put up a good fight as he knows the layout of the Portimão circuit very well.

Also competing on the track are the Superstock 1000, Superstock 600, KTM Junior European Cup and the Superbike Portugal Championship.

For those looking to get the adrenalin pumping in the Algarve, a visit to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve is not to be missed!

World Travel Awards

The highlight of the tourism calendar for any region, the World Travel Awards will also visit the Algarve in September for the annual Europe Gala Ceremony.

Taking place at the new Conrad Algarve, the event will welcome the leaders of the European tourism industry to a red carpet event designed to select the best-of-the-best.

World Travel Awards president Graham Cooke said: “We are delighted to host our first ceremony in the Algarve, a decision that reflects the crucial role that tourism plays in the region and its overall contribution to the Portuguese economy.”

He added: “The Algarve is also one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world, and the new Conrad Algarve will set a new precedent for luxury in the region.

“Our Europe Ceremony will provide a perfect forum to showcase its facilities to travel’s top decision-makers.”
