Fifa World Cup 2014: Switzerland beats Ecuador in final seconds at World Cup

Substitute Haris Seferovic scored a dramatic goal in the 93rd minute, to give Switzerland a 2-1 victory over Ecuador in Group E on its World Cup opening match.

The striker secured the three points when he turned in a low cross just 30 seconds before the final whistle blew, shooting the winning goal past Ecuador goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez.

While Ecuador may be deflated after tonight’s result, with some major work ahead of them, if they wish to escape to the round of 16, the country has been in the spotlight over the past few months as it looks to increase its annual tourism budget.

The government of Ecuador is slated to increase the country’s annual tourism budget from $40 million to $150 million, minister of tourism Vinicio Alvarado announced.

This budget will include funding for infrastructural developments such as roads, ports, and airports, which will exceed direct tourism investment.

The destination, which is estimated to have received 1.36 million tourists last year, will play host to the World Travel Awards  South and Central America Gala Ceremony later this year.

Hundreds of tourism leaders will gather at Centro Cultural Itchimbía in Quito on August 9th to find out who has triumphed in the industry.

This will be a unique opportunity for the destination to showcase its finest attractions to the leading lights of the travel and tourism.
