easyJet has added a new social sharing feature to its popular mobile app after netting more than 750,000 downloads since the app was launched in December. easyJet mobile apps were developed in partnership with Dublin-based mobile travel specialist Mobile Travel Technologies Ltd. (MTT).

The app is being downloaded at the rate of one per minute and on launch day it was the #1 free travel app in the UK iTunes® store. It’s also a top ten app in the French, Swiss and Italian iTunes app stores.

This week new social sharing features will be added which enable users to post their bookings straight onto popular social networking sites as well as email all the flight information to everyone else on the booking straight from the app. It also sends a helpful reminder to passengers to check in shortly before their flight.

Peter Duffy, Marketing Director for easyJet, commented;
“We are delighted with the feedback the app has had from customers – earning predominantly 5 star ratings by consumers. We know that when customers book their flights they are often keen to share the news with their travelling companions and friends online so we are sure the new social sharing features will be popular. We continue to work on future innovations so watch this space.”

“The easyJet mobile apps prove that if you invest in robust apps and an exceptional user experience you can generate significant revenue through mobile commerce,” said Gerry Samuels, Founder and Executive Director of Mobile Travel Technologies Ltd.

easyJet passengers are using mobile for both business and leisure travel. Traditional pin-stripe routes like Belfast International to London Gatwick are popular for mobile booking, but passengers are also making bookings to popular holiday destinations such as Sharm el Sheikh and Tenerife.

The majority of mobile bookings are made less than 20 days in advance, with a significant number of bookings being made for next day travel, but some passengers are booking 10 or more months in advance.
