East Midlands Trains supports National Armed Forces Day

East Midlands Trains, part of the Stagecoach Group, has shown its support for this year’s Armed Forces Day by providing discounted train travel and helping to raise awareness of this important national event.

Taking place in Nottingham tomorrow on 29 June, Armed Forces Day celebrates the outstanding contribution made by the Armed Forces.  A full day of activities are planned for the day taking place across Nottingham City Centre and the Victoria Embankment, with free admission for all visitors.

To help raise awareness of the important role of the Armed Forces and the events taking place on 29 June, East Midlands Trains will be distributing leaflets on its trains and at stations and using twitter to target its 12,000 followers.  In addition, announcements by famous actor and Armed Forces supporter Ray Winstone, will be played at East Midlands Trains stations and on trains throughout this week.

In recognition of the millions of service men and women, East Midlands Trains will also be providing discounted train travel for all serving personnel and their dependents to travel between London and Nottingham on 29 June.

Wing Commander Tracey Broome, MOD Armed Forces Day team, said: “East Midlands Trains is generously offering £10 off train tickets from London St Pancras to Nottingham for all Serving Personnel wishing to join in celebrations at the Armed Forces Day national event in Nottingham on 29 June. Support for the Armed Forces, whether from members of the public or major companies like East Midlands Trains, means a great deal to Servicemen and women, and will help to make this year’s celebrations in Nottingham the biggest and best yet.”

Tim Sayer, Engineering Director for East Midlands Trains, was a commissioned army officer for 17 years serving in Bosnia, Northern Ireland as well as Cyprus, Canada and Germany, and will be attending Armed Forces Day along with many other East Midlands Trains employees.

Tim commented:  “It’s easy for people going about their day to day business to forget the important role that our service men and women play, and the dedication needed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to protect our country.

“Armed Forces Day provides a great opportunity for everybody to show their support and pay tribute to the valuable contribution of those involved in the Royal Navy, Army and the Royal Air Force.

“Nottinghamshire has a strong military history, and amongst our own team at East Midlands Trains, we have veterans and also staff who currently serve in the territorial army alongside their existing jobs, so it’s very fitting that we will be showing our support for this year’s Armed Forces Day.”

East Midlands Trains is also joining forces with Nottingham City Council, who are charged with organising and hosting the national event, to jointly sponsor Armed Forces Day.
