Duty of care high on the agenda at The Business Travel Show

As duty of care continues to creep up the agenda for corporate travel managers, the Business Travel Show will tackle the topic in its conference programme and a range of exhibiting companies will be on the show floor offering CSR-related services.

The Business Travel Show, taking place in London on 5-6 February 2013, is Europe’s main exhibition and conference for corporate travel buyers, managers and bookers to source, learn and network.

Bernard Harrop, Project Icarus, leads a masterclass tutorial in the ROI of Sustainability and Paul Broughton, sales director - EMEA, Chambers Travel Management is moderating a session on Safety, Security and Sustainabiliy.

Exhibitors include Layer Cake, Water-to-Go, International SOS, Masta, Aria Assistance, The Anvil Group and Chartis Insurance/AIG.

Layer Cake will be presenting Mr Travel, the first business travel security serious game, which has been designed specifically to allow companies to fulfil this obligation while guaranteeing better retention and appropriation rates than other business travel security training programmes which are currently on the market. The game exposes the players to a variety of risk-situations, such as surviving an assault or kidnapping, choosing the right taxi, broaching sensitive topics with locals (ie, religion and politics), avoiding food poisoning, dealing with difficult customs officers and recognising counterfeits.
Water-to-Go is a water bottle with a unique filter, which allows travellers to take water from almost any source and deliver pure clean drinking water anywhere at a fraction of the cost of bottled water. Using nano technology developed for the space programme, the filter removes 99.9 per cent of all bacteria water borne diseases and viruses and eliminates harmful chemicals, heavy metals and even poisons such as arsenic.

“Senior corporate travel managers responding to the Business Travel Show’s annual survey revealed they expect an increased focus on duty of care to be the fourth biggest change in their roles in 2013*,” explained David Chapple, event director, Business Travel Show.

“At the Business Travel Show they will find a range of CSR suppliers, and they can attend free, high quality conference sessions that will show how, if managed well, they can hit all three strategic objectives, producing simultaneous wins for themselves, their travellers and the environment, and that fulfilling green and duty of care obligations in a corporate travel programme can actually reduce costs, too.”
