Douglas Martell assumes role of VP Operations, South West Asia for IHG

InterContinental Hotels Group announces Douglas Martell’s commencement in his role as Vice President, Operations, for the company’s South West Asia region. He succeeds Chris Moloney, who has retired after a career spanning three decades with the company.

In his new role, Douglas will spearhead IHG’s operations across India, Bangladesh and Nepal, currently totaling 13 hotels across 10 cities. Douglas will be based in Delhi, India, and report to Pascal Gauvin, Chief Operating Officer for India, Middle East and Africa.

Douglas will also lead the team to grow IHG’s portfolio of brands, including InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Holiday Inn, as well as Holiday Inn Express, which will be making its debut in India later this year. The company plans to have 150 hotels across India by 2020.

Pascal Gauvin, Chief Operating Officer, India, Middle East and Africa, said, “Having worked in some of the most promising and fast-paced growth markets in the world, Douglas brings invaluable experience. I have no doubt that Douglas is the right person to help fuel our business in this region and we’re delighted he has made this move to our Delhi office.”

Douglas joined IHG in 2001, and has since held various operational roles across Australia, Japan and Greater China.  Most recently, he held the role of Vice President, Food & Beverage and Operations, for the company’s Greater China region, based in Shanghai.
