Delta Air Lines flight makes emergency landing in Florida after engine Is damaged

A Delta Air Lines flight from Florida to Minneapolis made an emergency return landing in Florida Sunday after one of its engines broke apart, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

The jet’s engine apparently broke apart at around 7:45am local time, about 15 minutes after takeoff, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport spokesman Greg Meyer said.

Pieces of the engine rained down over Port Everglades, and investigators from the Broward County Sheriff’s Department were on the scene shortly before 8:30am recovering engine parts.

There were 140 passengers on the plane. No injuries to anyone on board or on the ground were reported, and the passengers were booked on other flights to their destinations.
