Day of German economy in Kazakhstan

The German Economic Union in the Republic of Kazakhstan (VDW) and the Representation of the German Economy in Central Asia will hold the 15th “Day of German Economy in Kazakhstan” on October 25, 2013.

The theme of the Forum is: “Germany and Kazakhstan - cooperation in holding EXPO-2017 - energy security with the use of renewable and classical energy sources”. Plenary presentations on the following topics are stated in the Forum program: “New projects in energy sector”, “On commodity and technology partnership - results of agreement” and “Professional training of staff – creation of favorable conditions to attract investment”. Prof. Dr. Friedbert Pflüger, a Former State Secretary, Director of the European Centre for Energy and Resource Security (EUCERS), will deliver a speech on “Energy Security for Sustainable Development in Germany and Europe”. Official representatives from the German and Kazakh side are invited to the Forum. It is expected to be attended by 250 guests from Germany and Kazakhstan.

“Day of German Economy” - is the traditional meeting place of German and Kazakhstani companies and their political partners. Achievements, future projects, opportunities for improvement of bilateral cooperation are usually discussed during the Forum.

Kazakhstan is the most important trade partner of Germany in Central Asia. Sales turnover between Kazakhstan and Germany makes up to about 85 per cent of the latter’s foreign trade volume with the Central Asian countries. In 2012 Kazakhstan as an export partner of Germany No. 1 in Central Asia purchased from Germany machines, equipment and vehicles to the amount of 1.1 billion EUR; a 14.9 % increase compared to the previous year - the data show intense work to diversify the country’s economy.

In 2012 total turnover of the two countries amounted to about 6 billion EUR. Currently, more than 350 German companies operate in Kazakhstan, so the German business community represented in Kazakhstan is the largest in Central Asia. Companies from Germany invest, particularly in the fields of infrastructure development, trade and construction, and participate in all areas of the economy of Kazakhstan.

The German Economic Union in the Republic of Kazakhstan (VDW) was established in 1994 under the name Club of the German Economy in Kazakhstan (DWK) and renamed in July 2012 to the German Economy Union in the Republic of Kazakhstan. VDW is working under the auspices of the Embassy of Germany in Kazakhstan. VDW - a voluntary association of German and Kazakhstani companies and organisations that have established the Union to represent their business interests in Kazakhstan and Germany.

VDW includes more than 120 members. VDW substantively and geographically closely associated with the Delegation of German Economy in Central Asia, which, as a representative of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce, represents the interests of the German economy in Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries and is supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and German embassies in the Central Asia countries.

“Day of German Economy” gains more and more importance and is held with the support of the members of the German Economic Union in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
