Crowne Plaza Resort Xishuangbanna opens

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) has announced the opening of Crowne Plaza Resort Xishuangbanna, the company’s first Crowne Plaza Resort in China. Set among the tropical rainforests of Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, straddling the Lancang River on the border with Myanmar and Laos, the 520-room hotel is the first five-star resort in China’s southernmost region, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

Taking the theme of a Dai Palace and inspired by the surrounding architecture that is steeped in the history of the Dai culture, Crowne Plaza Resort Xishuangbanna sits at the edge of the picturesque town of Jinghong. The resort has a distinctively Southeast Asian feel in line with its location, year-round great weather and the spacious rooms, villas and beautifully landscaped outdoor pool.

The rooms feature oversize balconies with views of the resort’s extensive tropical gardens. A range of different room types and suites include 80 square meter king rooms, generously sized two-room King-bedded suites, luxurious Club accommodation, two 470 square meter Royal suites and two huge 1,600 square meter Presidential Villas. The Club wings have their own individual arrival areas, outdoor private pool and lounge facilities for guests looking for something more exclusive and private.

Spread throughout the resort are six Food and Beverage outlets, including the uniquely designed Man Lin Chinese Restaurant with its own private courtyard and eight private dining rooms, the Padma Dai barbecue serving up local Yunnan classics, a water-surrounded lobby lounge, “S Bar” featuring local entertainment each evening, the authentic Lotus Thai eatery, and Noo Sam all-day dining restaurant serving Pan-Asian and Mediterranean cuisine.

Across the vast resort facilities include a huge 2,000 square meter fitness and leisure centre, a heated indoor pool and the stunningly landscaped outdoor resort pool that flows through the resort. Tennis courts, outdoor exercise areas and private shade retreats are scattered around the gardens. A fun kids club is free for families to use, and the hotel’s resort centre offers day trip arrangements to the likes of the surrounding Single-Tree Forest and Wild Elephant Valley.

In keeping with the Dai palace theme the hotel has its own functioning Temple for guests to view or have a spiritual moment in idyllic calming surroundings.

The hotel boasts extensive meeting facilities of over 5,000 square meters in total, with three ballrooms and 16 meeting rooms. The largest ballroom can seat up to 1,000 guests for grand banquets and is ideal for corporate events and destination weddings with manicured outdoor areas available for specially themed dinners.
