Club Med reopens Rio Das Pedras Resort in Brazil

Club Med announces the relaunch of Rio das Pedras after extensive renovations to room accommodations, the main restaurant, convention center and the addition of a new adults-only quiet pool. Located southern Rio de Janeiro, this exclusive Eco-Resort is situated between the Mata Atlântica, one of the world’s most ecologically diverse rainforests, and nearly 2,000 feet of private beach. Club Med presents guests with plenty of opportunities to relax and explore the carefully preserved and developed rainforest. Rio das Pedras entices guests from all over the world with the warmth and color of Brazilian architecture, culture and traditions that converge into one with the natural beauty of mountains, rainforests, rivers and ocean. As one of the most globally recognized brands, Club Med is renowned for its resorts in the most picturesque locations on earth, with more than 71 properties in 25 countries. Each of the brand’s extraordinary destinations reflect the unique characteristics found in its location, and Rio das Pedras is no exception.

Club Med Rio das Pedras’ relaunch introduces new and upgraded rooms to the property’s 346 total Colonial-style bungalows. With the help of French architect, Marc Hertrich, 120 Deluxe Rooms were redesigned with décor that blends the traditional influences of Brazil, India and Portugal while using natural, local materials. From nightstands evoking the elongated drums typical of Brazilian music and delicate chandeliers honoring the indigenous atmosphere, to room colors representing Brazil’s flag, each aspect of the design showcases authentic Brazilian culture to enhance the guests comfort and experience. Incorporating a Club Med signature concept, Rio das Pedras now boasts a quiet pool exclusively for adults desiring absolute serenity.

The transformation of Rio das Pedras also includes a $4 million investment to completely renovate the Convention Center and Main Restaurant. With a capacity of 790 seats, the Main Restaurant is strategically located above the reception area welcoming guests upon their arrival to the resort, and is divided into five thematic seating areas. The 1,000-seat Convention Center is now even better equipped to accommodate corporate groups and business travel which represents 55 percent of Club Med Rio das Pedras’ operations. This is representative of the Club Med portfolio at large, as every destination now offers groups and incentives offerings, and most also include professional meeting spaces.

Rio das Pedras is the ideal family resort offering supervision and exciting activities for children from four months to 17 years of age, with Baby Club Med®, Petit Club Med®, Mini Club Med® and Juniors’ Club Med®, providing dedicated programs and amenities for each age group. With an array of activities to suit all interests, guests can enjoy a wide array of land and water sports with multi-level instruction, from archery and tennis to water-skiing in a sheltered cove and kayaking through rainforest waterways surrounding the property. Vacationers take time to discover nature and the Private Natural Heritage Reserve with the on-property biologist. For an additional cost, Club Med also offers once in a lifetime experiences with excursions tours to the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, rafting adventures down the “Mambucaba” river and visits to authentic Brazilian coffee farms.
