The City of Ottawa has launched a $40,000 iPhone app in order to showcase business and tourism destinations across the city.
Destination Ottawa is designed to help local residents and tourists learn more about the city.
It includes information from the city’s databanks and was designed by local app developer, Purple Forge.
Among other functions, it will allow users to access things like Ottawa airport arrivals and departures updates, and popular tourist spot information.
It will eventually be offered on other phone platforms but Mayor Jim Watson did not want to wait as he looks to push the city towards using more modern tech skills.
“This makes Ottawa one of the first cities in the world with an app that so fully integrates business, retail, tourism and the local economy - connecting residents and visitors with local businesses,” said Mayor Watson.
“I am very proud and excited that Ottawa is leading the way in this technological development that is a win-win for everyone.”
