Holidaymakers in the UK are to be offered a new range of cheap flights as low-cost carrier Jet2.com launches a new base at Glasgow Airport.

The location will be the eighth operated by the Leeds/Bradford airport based-carrier, with services due to launch in March 2011.

As part of the development the carrier hopes to create 150 local jobs and offer nine new low fare destinations.

These will include the region’s only direct service to Nice, as well as direct low fare flights to Alicante, Dalaman, Faro, Tunisia, Majorca, Paphos, Sharm-el-Sheikh and Tenerife.

The airline has been in operation since early 2003 and presently serves 50 destinations across Europe and North America.
