Centara completes upgrade for former Sofitel Centara Grand Bangkok

On January 1, 2012, the Sofitel Centara Grand Bangkok became known as Centara Grand Plaza Bangkok, signifying the amicable dissolving of the long-term partnership between Centara and Accor, and a consequent rebranding of the hotel. The relaunching party will be on February 8, 2012.

Having originally opened in 1983, the Centara Grand Plaza Bangkok is one of Bangkok’s longest-established five-star hotels.

Situated on Vibhavadee Rangist Highway, amidst the booming Ladprao business district of Bangkok, the hotel offers panoramic views of the lush greenery of the adjacent Chatuchak Park, as well as Bangkok’s spectacular skyline. The hotel provides an easy access to Suvarnabhumi International Airport, which takes just over 30 minutes, and the downtown area is 15 minutes via the underground Mass Rapid Transit and the BTS Skytrain, both of which have stations within a few minutes’ walk of the hotel.

The hotel is conveniently connected to the BCC Hall, a prime city-center venue for conventions, conferences, and exhibitions, and also the renowned Central Plaza shopping mall, with its 300 lifestyle retail shops, boutiques, restaurants, and multiplex cinema, combined with ample parking facilities. The famous Chatuchak Market is opposite.

Centara Grand Plaza Bangkok recently completed a massive THB 800 million renovation program to upgrade all of its 565 guestrooms and suites, restaurants, event space, and other facilities. In doing so, it has once again consolidated its position as one of Bangkok’s leading business and leisure hotels, and one of the city’s prime events venues.

All rooms and suites have luxury amenities for leisure and business travelers, and the majority of rooms offer views across the green expanse of Chatuchak Park. Every room is equipped with individual air-conditioning, private bath and shower, satellite TV with in-house movies, mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities, in-room safe, bathrobes and slippers. There are five floors for the club, which has its own butler service and features the exclusive Club Lounge, offering services including complimentary continental breakfast, beverages throughout the day, and cocktails with canapés in the evening.

The hotel has its own newly-renovated extensive meetings and events facilities totaling 10,000 square meters, complementing those of the BCC Hall, which can accommodate up to 3,800 people. The Vibhavadee Ballroom, which can seat 1,800 people and serve 2,000 for a reception, is one of the biggest ballrooms in town. There are also 25 full-equipped function rooms that offer scope for any kind of event, all supported by the latest in audio-visual and presentations technology and backed by technical and service expertise.

When it comes to dining and entertainment, you’re spoiled for choice, with seven restaurants, lounges, bars, and nighttime entertainment outlets. Chinese, Thai, Italian, Vietnamese, and Japanese cuisines are featured, and a sumptuous international-style buffet is available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Twenty-four-hour in-room dining service is also available.

A Wellness Center has been created at the lower lobby level under a “Lifestyle in the Garden” concept, where guests will find complete solutions for personal health, with a fitness studio, swimming pool and pool bar, and SPA Cenvaree providing seven treatment rooms.

Michel Serrano, General Manager of the Centara Grand Plaza Bangkok, said that the objective throughout the entire renovation program has been to focus on providing the ultimate in comfort and modern design for the hotel’s guests. This has been a complete program, covering every aspect of the hotel, and is designed to consolidate its position as one of Bangkok’s leading business and leisure hotels, and one of the city’s prime events venues.

“Beyond the change of name, nothing regarding the hotel service and standard will change. Our hotel, which has been completely refurbished in anticipation of this rebranding, will continue to offer to our guests the same quality as before. The staff personnel remains the same, and will continue to give you a warm and friendly welcome,” Mr. Serrano said.
