Cancun Centre receives major overhaul

The Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau has completed the renovation of the Cancun Centre.

Located in the heart of Cancun’s Hotel Zone, the centre began its operations in 2004 and has since positioned itself as the number one facility in the region for conferences, conventions and exhibitions of national and international stature.

In 2014, meetings & conventions brought 13,000 visitors and twelve major conferences to the Cancun Centre, generating revenues of more than to £22 million, a 42 per cent increase from the previous year.

“The Cancun Centre’s renovation will greatly improve the destination’s position as a desirable location for meetings and conferences,” said Jesus Almaguer, chief executive of the Cancun CVB.

“In addition to Cancun’s pristine beaches and turquoise waters, renowned service and high end hotels fit for large meetings, the newly renovated facility will provide an additional reason for meeting planners to book their conferences in Cancun.”

The design concept for the remodelling is inspired by the natural elements of the Caribbean.

The renovations are due for completion in June 2016 although the centre will continue to host events throughout 2015.

Approximately 500 events including nineteen large conferences and 23,000 participants are expected to visit this year with more than £27 million in revenue forecast.

The Cancun Centre began remodelling efforts in October 2014, and since then has improved interior meeting rooms and lobbies on various floors.

Wood columns located on the ground floor have been wrapped in different shades of vinyl, which perfectly contrast with the new carpets and make the space feel more harmonious.

Also, its double-height ceiling and extended curves make the centre seem larger.

Organic figures and natural wood accents can also be found in both the ceiling and marble details throughout.
