The busiest weekend in the history of one of the world’s busiest international airports – Dubai International – was managed without a glitch following days of planning and preparation by operator Dubai Airports, partners and government authorities.
The three terminals at Dubai International welcomed a total of 638,317 passengers from Thursday December 18th through Saturday December 20th.
Friday was the busiest day for the airport in terms of departures with traffic reaching 112,111 passengers while Saturday was the busiest for overall traffic with 216,807 passengers.
The airport welcomes some 160,000 passengers on an average day.
“We are very pleased that passenger traffic through our terminals remained smooth and we were able to maintain the quality of our customer service despite the record traffic numbers.
“It was the result of meticulous planning and preparations and close coordination between Dubai Airports and stakeholders including Emirates and all the other airlines, dnata, Dubai Police, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigner Affairs, and Dubai Customs among others.
“We also received a lot of support from our customers who responded positively to our awareness campaign by arriving early to the airport to beat the rush,” said Paul Griffiths, chief executive, Dubai Airports.
