Budapest Airport celebrates the inaugural Wizz Air flight to Alicante

Demonstrating its continued growth and expansion at Budapest Airport, Wizz Air began its 34th service on 14 June, with the launch of its seasonal weekly flights to Alicante. Basing its eighth aircraft at the airport makes it possible for the home-based airline to offer another popular summer route.

The launch further consolidates Spain’s position as the eighth largest country market served from Budapest, with 29 weekly scheduled operations offering a total of 5,301 weekly seats (according to Innovata schedule data). Alicante, the traditional Mediterranean port, becomes Wizz Air’s fifth Spanish destination from the Hungarian gateway joining Malaga, Barcelona, Madrid and Palma de Mallorca, with a total of 20 weekly operations. Offering 69% of Budapest’s Spanish weekly operations, Wizz Air now fills 68% of all scheduled seats to Spain.

Kam Jandu, CCO, Budapest Airport comments: “The new Wizz Air service to Alicante fills a real customer demand and whilst the south-east region of Spain has always been well travelled destination for Northern Europe, given a lack of flight connections in the past, it is not a traditional holiday market for Hungary, so we’re excited to see how it performs. With Madrid and Barcelona already available with Wizz Air all year round we are sure that Alicante will be a hit this season with tourists.”
