Corporation`s Travel Distribution Services Division today announced it has named Ramesh Punwani to the newly created role of senior vice president of global strategy, reporting directly to the division`s President, Sam E. Galeotos
Punwani, 60, will be responsible for helping to coordinate global strategies across Cendant`s various customer-segmented markets to capitalize on the travel distribution assets assembled by Cendant over the past two years, including Galileo International, a leading GDS; Cheap Tickets, a full service travel Web site; and Highwire, a corporate booking solution.
Most recently Punwani was an independent financial and operations consultant for private companies like Travelweb, the recently launched travel site and E-Artham, an Internet money transfer company. Previously he was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Travelocity.com, where he helped transform the private Internet company into a profitable enterprise and leading industry player. Punwani was previously with American Express where he was vice president of Tour and Cruise Relations and director of Business Development. He held various prior positions both as a consultant, and on staff, with Kiwi International, North Atlantic Aviation, Tower Air and Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield. Punwani was with Pan American World Airways from 1986 to 1993, where he most recently served as SVP and CFO. He began his career in travel with Trans World Airlines (TWA) in 1967, and held many positions there culminating his tenure as vice president of finance and treasury operations.
“Ramesh brings significant depth and expertise to Cendant and I know he will be a key contributor as we execute against our vision,” said Galeotos. “Ramesh has demonstrated his ability to work effectively with customers and other partners and I am confident he will be instrumental in capitalizing on new and existing opportunities for TDS.”

Punwani holds a master`s in business administration in finance from New York University and a master`s in management science from Cornell University. He received a bachelor`s in industrial engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (India).
