, the online travel service, has announced the appointment of two leading industry figures.
Carl Michel has been appointed Director of Product Strategy, in charge of airline relationships and developing Opodo’s non-air product portfolio.
Carl has over 15 years experience in the travel, consultancy and telecommunications industries, most recently at Energis plc, where he was Chairman and CEO of their German operations.
After seven years in consultancy with McKinsey & Co., working primarily in consumer goods and retail, Carl joined British Airways in 1995 at Head of Business Development. He then went on to be CEO of Deutsche BA for three years where he brought the airline to financial break-even. In 1999 he was appointed Commercial Director of BA, in charge of sales, marketing, alliances and the on-line business before joining Energis plc in 2001.
Commenting on his appointment Carl said, “Within a year Opodo has launched a brand new online travel service and seen it grow to become one of the top travel sites in Europe. Now is the ideal opportunity to look at developing and enhancing the products it offers its customers. I look forward to working with David and the team to further enhance the service and provide customers with a truly comprehensive pan-European online travel service.”
Opodo has also announced the appointment of Richard Hadfield as the UK Country Manager.
Hadfield, formerly Director of Sales, New Channels for Thomas Cook Limited has an impressive multi-channel sales & marketing background in the travel and financial services markets, including a variety of senior roles at Thomas Cook and Thomascook.com.
Richard will be responsible for all sales and marketing for Opodo.co.uk
