Sheraton Brand to be Upgraded

Starwood Hotels & Resorts said it will significantly upgrade its Sheraton Hotels brand beyond the $450 million it already invested since 1998 to renovate the division`s hotels.

Starwood said the changes—which will take place over the next few years—are designed to bring consistency to the brand and to make the hotels more appealing to families and business travelers.

Among other things, the company will spend $80 million to install new beds; redesign and redecorate rooms and bathrooms; and will spend more than $50 million to upgrade the 2,400-room Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers.

Later this year, Starwood will debut a new prototype for new-build Sheraton properties, primarily for suburban markets.
