A Golfer`s Paradise

The International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) is a premier meeting place and business forum for the golf tourism sector. This event brings together specialist golf tour operators, incentive travel agents, meetings and conference organisers with leading hotels, resorts, golf courses, airlines and other suppliers of golf related products.
The fourth annual IGTM will take place on 5th - 8th of December, 2001, and the chosen destination will be Sun City, South Africa; ‘the land of golden opportunities’
Despite the recent events of September 11th, golf travel delegates from over 30 countries and all 5 continents are expected to attend this year’s International Golf Travel Market. High quality buyers will be present with representation from all the major golf tour operators including Barwell Leisure, Longshot Holidays, Leisure Link, Lotus Super Travel and British Airways Holidays. Delegates emphasise the importance of attendance at this year’s International Golf Travel Market: IGTM now firmly established as the world’s top golf travel show

The IGTM Event Manager, Mark Walsh, commented on the resilience shown by the golf travel industry at this uncertain time. ``‘Many delegates have explained that it is even more important for them to attend IGTM this year, in order to discuss with colleagues the way ahead for the future and the strategies that will need to be implemented.’
International Golf Travel Market is held at a different host destination each year. The destinations are chosen based on their golf facilities and attraction to the golf travel market. Indeed, Sun City, South Africa has a wealth of opportunity to offer the golfing community.

South Africa is increasingly being utilised by tour operators and conference and incentive organisers worldwide. South Africa boasts of a modern economy and infrastructure, unique wildlife, diverse cultural history and vibrant approach to democracy. Many opportunities remain for new and innovative golf programs featuring the destination.

Sun City lies in a bushveld valley in South Africa`s Northwest Province. This unique resort offers a huge range of sports, leisure activities, entertainment and game viewing.

Sun City`s two golf courses attract the world`s finest players. The Gary Player Country Club has been home for many years to the Annual Million Dollar Golf Challenge and is complemented by the desert-style Lost City Golf Course. This course offers magnificent views of Pilanesberg National Park, the third largest game reserve in Southern Africa.
The resort can also boast of stunning accommodation. It is central to extraordinary resorts, such as The Palace of the Lost City and The Cascades hotel, renowned for its tropical gardens, waterfalls and lagoons. The Sun City Hotel enjoys panoramic views of the Gary Player Country Club. It is also home to one of the largest casinos in the Southern Hemisphere. Additionally, safaris from Sun City offer the chance of viewing a wide variety of rare and magnificent animals and birds.
IGTM is the only forum that brings together all sides of the travel industry in a programme of pre-scheduled one to one diary appointments. The show schedule is strongly geared to both formal and informal networking opportunities. Walsh commented that ‘In addition, this year the event will take place the week after The Nedbank Million Dollar Golf Challenge and major golf celebrities including Gary Player are likely to be in attendance.’
IGTM, nomination of Northern Ireland as Established Golf Destination of the Year 2001, is organised by Reed Exhibition Companies.
